A Service of Institution of the Revd Dr Edwin Aiken as Vicar of St. Macartin’s Cathedral, Parish of Enniskillen, took place on Sunday, 19 April which also included a Service of Confirmation.

The service was led by the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd Dr. Ian Ellis, assisted by Dean Kenneth Hall.

Revd Edwin’s three-year term as Curate came to an end in November, and since the Revd Edwin was happy to continue serving in Enniskillen Parish, the Select Vestry made a request to Diocesan Council and the RCB to create a new post of Vicar of the Parish. This was approved and agreed by the Bishop of Clogher.

Then following a Board of Nomination, Revd Edwin was appointed by the Bishop of Clogher to serve as Vicar in St Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen, serving under the direction and general supervision of the Dean, The Very Rev Kenneth Hall.

Revd Edwin becomes the first Vicar in the 400-year history of Enniskillen Parish. The Parish over the years has been served by 28 Rectors (six of them also being Deans including the Very Revd Kenneth Hall) and 82 curates.

Revd Aiken, who has been Curate in St. Macartin’s Cathedral since February 2024, has a PhD in geography from Queen’s University, Belfast as well as postgraduate certificate in Theology, Mission and Ministry and a Master of Theology from Trinity College, Dublin, achieving many academic awards.

Revd Aiken and his wife Alex have a son, Orion.

Also assisting in the service was Archdeacon Paul Thompson, acting on behalf of the Diocesan Registrar.

Later during the service, Bishop Ian confirmed 14 candidates.
